Year of the Word

Here in the Diocese of Austin, the Bishop has made it the "Year of the Word." As in years past we have had a church-wide year of the eucharist and so on, Bishop Aymond has decided that this should be a year focused on scripture. I think this is a wonderful idea to remind Catholics that, as Dr. Scott Hahn says "The bible is a precious family heirloom. It is made for catholics, by catholics." In other words, scripture is just as important to us as catholics as it is for anybody else.

I found today at Catholic World News that Pope B16 has decided that the next topic for the full next full meeting of the synod of bishops will be: "The Word of God in the Life and the Mission of the Church." I can't wait to hear what they discuss. The story is HERE.
